Upgrade hardware

Recorder + switch.
Keep your cameras.

Most upgrades only need the Owl-NVR appliance and a PoE switch on your existing network. The recorder discovers your cameras automatically, stores footage locally, and runs search and alerts on site — no cloud archive required.

Owl-NVR hardware lineup: 2U rack-mount recorder, 24-port PoE switch, dome camera, and bullet camera
What's included

Recorder, switch — and cameras only if you need them.

Every upgrade ships with the local Owl-NVR appliance and a PoE switch sized to your camera count. Already have IP cameras? Plug them in. Need new ones? We can quote PoE bullet and dome cameras as an add-on.

Recorder build tiers

Two builds. Pick the headroom you need.

Both ship in the same 2U chassis with the same Owl-NVR software. Pro adds CPU and GPU headroom, more RAM, more storage, and a longer warranty — for camera counts that grow with the property.

Storage planning

How many days of footage do you actually get?

Approximate retention in days, assuming 24×7 continuous H.265 recording at 4 Mbps per camera (the safe planning number for a 5 MP IP camera). Real deployments using motion-triggered recording typically see 2–3× longer retention.

8 TB · Pro47days24days12days6days
16 TB · 2× 8 TB95days47days24days12days
32 TB · 4× 8 TB (Enterprise)190days95days47days24days

Green ≥ 60 days · white 30–59 · amber 14–29 · red < 14. Bump up a drive tier — or enable motion-triggered recording — to land in the green.

Numbers are conservative. They assume 5 MP H.265 at 4 Mbps recording 24×7. Drop to 1080p, switch to motion-only, or lower bitrate and retention roughly doubles or triples.
